Course Overview

Learners will be able to develop and implement organizational-level data governance strategy and structure to support the decision-making process on data-related matters and enforce adherence to data policies, procedures and practices within the organisation.

Course Objectives

You will have knowledge of the following:

  • Data and privacy laws, regulations and key obligations under the PDPA
  • Evolving data-driven innovation needs and expectations, and ways in which data can be leveraged/harnessed in order to deliver innovative products and services
  • Implementation considerations for data governance structures
  • Knowledge about technology-related framework (eg AI Governance Framework) and datarelated frameworks (eg data sharing, data valuation)
  • Organisation’s perspective on ICT technologies, IT/cyber security, data ethics and data sharing principles.
  • Knowledge of a related industry domain

You will be able to perform the following:

  • Implement checks and periodically monitor the handling of personal data across the organisation
  • Monitor and maintain systems to check compliance against data governance guidelines
  • Establish a proper governance structure and define the data protection roles and responsibilities of each officer identified in the organisation
  • Review the effectiveness of existing governance structure, policies and processes
  • Oversee roll out of new or revised policies and practices on data governance, clarifying complex queries
  • Identify data to be governed and determine data usage and policies
  • Able to develop strategy that balance the need for data protection and data innovation
  • Identify potential conflicts between DP and DI and recommend a balanced approach to resolving these conflicts

Pre-requisites

These are the admission requirements:

  • Learner has to be competent in Fundamentals of Personal Data Protection Act module
  • Understand relevant organisational strategies, objectives, culture, policies, processes and products / services
  • Have information gathering skills to gather and collate necessary data
  • Have analytical skills to assess policies and procedures
  • Have business writing skills to prepare management report
  • Have interpersonal and communication skills to interact with relevant stakeholders
  • Have facilitation skills to ask the right questions to elicit necessary information
  • Be aware of compliance requirements of organisation
